Astrid Consentimiento

Puente Alto: where it all began

Astrid Veas grew up in Puente Alto, in the La Papelera neighborhood, in a family tied to the paper industry: her grandfather worked there all his life, and she remembers eating ice cream with him in the town square. Her mother sang while doing the housework and was her first influence; her older brothers opened other worlds, from Ricardo Montaner's ballads and Mariah Carey's hits to metal.

She left the neighborhood around age 12 or 13 and at 15 sang on a stage for the first time, at her school, where a talent workshop helped her let go of her shyness. Music never left her since.

Years on stage

Between 15 and 23 she worked as an independent artist, singing in dance orchestras, hotels and venues where music is learned live. She studied lyrical singing to take care of her voice, took harmony and jazz classes and attended singer Miriam Hernández's academy, though she says she learned most by singing.

Her TV path began with shows such as Venga conmigo (2002) and Rojo, fama contrafama (2003), where she was briefly part of the second generation. Then came covers at festivals and contests, until she realized she wanted to tell her own stories.

Astrid on The Voice Chile

The Voice Chile, 2015

In 2015 she reached The Voice Chile on Canal 13 and sang a classic by The Carpenters. She remembers it as one of the best artistic experiences of her life and the step that brought her closer to the big stage she had dreamed of since childhood.

Viña del Mar Festival 2018

Viña del Mar 2018: two Gaviotas

She had dreamed of the Viña Festival since childhood and applied several times with songs such as “Sabes”, “La dicha de amar” and “Mundo al revés”. On her last attempt she re-recorded “Mundo al revés” with a friend the night before the application deadline.

In 2018 she won the Folk Competition of the 58th edition and was named best performer, taking home both Gaviotas. That same week she was a candidate for Festival Queen under the motto “Naturally, a queen with feeling”, introduced herself as a knitter and motorcyclist, and said that if she won she would ride onto the stage on her bike. That year she was also a guest artist at Teletón Chile.

Puente Alto welcomed her with a tribute, and she has since championed the idea of “Puente Arte” against prejudices about her hometown.

Relive the moment

Astrid Consentimiento in knitted wool

Wool, crochet and stage

Astrid has knitted since around 2014, when a mother-in-law taught her, and almost all her stage clothes are made of wool. Over time she began designing her own dresses: colorful outfits that became part of her identity and appear in her music videos and shows. For her, knitting and songwriting are the same way of working with hands and intention.

Astrid in the Riviera Maya

Mexico: Puerto Morelos and the Riviera Maya

She now lives in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, where she produces her music and takes her show to hotels, restaurants, beach clubs, festivals and private events across the Riviera Maya and Cancún. She lived her first Day of the Dead in Mexico in 2023, visited Cancún TV and runs music and motherhood sessions that connect with her community.

Distance also gave her songs: in September, when homesickness for Chile grows huge, she recorded in her home patio, with just guitar and voice, the cueca “La Consentida” and her own “Mirando la Cordillera”.

Her music and lyrics

Latin pop, afrobeat, reggae, urban rhythms and folk roots, with lyrics about mental reprogramming and positive thinking. Astrid believes reality is created through language and awareness, and her songs are everyday anthems: starting over, letting go of fear and remembering what you are capable of.

She also reinterprets songs she loves, such as “Fruta y té” (Gepe), “Tren al Sur” (Los Prisioneros), “Hijo del Sol Luminoso” (Joe Vasconcellos), “Eres mi religión” (Maná) and “Ojalá” (Silvio Rodríguez), in her own Caribbean-flavored versions.

Un Buen Perdedor

In 2025 she released “Un Buen Perdedor”, live versions and Christmas songs. In 2026 she released a series of singles with official music videos, and on October 31 comes “Me Levantaré”. Listen to all her music.
